Shanghai (SHA1) and Beijing (PEK1) Datacenter Maintenance August 12, 2022

Duration: 23 hours and 59 minutes

Symantec, a division of Broadcom, plans to conduct maintenance to the Web Security Service (WSS) in the Shanghai (SHA1) and Beijing (PEK1) data centers on August 12, 2022, with the precise timing to be announced in a subsequent communication.

Important Changes for Explicit-Proxy Customers in Mainland China ONLY

As a result of a new government regulatory requirement in China, all explicit proxy connections to WSS must be directed to a new Chinese-registered hostname which will be provided in a future communication, likely to be sent early the week of August 8, 2022. The underlying IP addresses will not change.

Special Notice

The purpose of this communication is to prepare you for a shorter than usual maintenance notification lead time. We strongly recommend making preparations to switch devices in mainland China to the new hostname as soon as we provide it because it is possible that we will be forced to perform the maintenance earlier than planned, if circumstances beyond our control require it. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

During this maintenance event all services will remain operational and available. The following describes what happens to connected clients, depending on access method used:

  • Explicit Proxy / Proxy Forwarding: Devices using Explicit-Proxy, PAC files, or Proxy-Forwarding locations within China should prepare to update to use the new hostname to reach the in-country data centers. Continued use of the global hostname inside China will be directed to PoPs outside China.
  • WSS Agent / SEP Agent Tunnel Mode: No action required, no impact.
  • IPsec: No action required, no impact.
